At Oak Leaf Community Mortgage, we are proud to be part of a larger story, one rooted in community, integrity, and a deep commitment to homeownership. As a mortgage company powered by North Shore Trust and Savings, we share in that legacy and in the people who shaped it.
Today, we pause to honor Nathan Walker, President and CEO of North Shore Trust and Savings, whose leadership, vision, and character continue to guide both North Shore and Oak Leaf.

A Leader Who Saw What Was Possible
The integration of Oak Leaf Community Mortgage into North Shore Trust and Savings in late 2023 marked an important step forward in expanding how we serve our communities.
Nathan Walker played a key role in that vision.
He recognized early on how Oak Leaf could strengthen North Shore Trust’s long-standing commitment to community banking and homeownership. By bringing together North Shore Trust’s stability and deep roots with Oak Leaf’s specialized mortgage expertise, he helped create a more dynamic and accessible path for clients across Chicagoland.
Today, Oak Leaf operates as the dedicated mortgage division of North Shore Trust, continuing the work Nathan believed in, delivering thoughtful, flexible lending solutions while staying grounded in a relationship-first approach.
A Lifetime with North Shore
Nathan’s connection to North Shore Trust and Savings began the week he was born, when his grandmother opened his first savings account at the bank.
He truly grew up with North Shore.
In 1996, he began his career as a part-time teller. Over the years, he worked across every department, gaining a deep understanding of the organization and the people it serves. Through hard work, humility, and a genuine love for the bank, he rose to become President and CEO.

A Leader Defined by People
Nathan believed that banking was, at its core, about people.
While he always valued connecting directly with customers, he often shared that his role as CEO shifted his focus toward supporting the team around him. He led with courage, kindness, and authenticity, creating a culture where people felt seen, valued, and supported.
He knew employees by name, celebrated successes, and stood alongside his team through challenges. His leadership was not just visible, it was deeply felt.
A Commitment to Community
Nathan’s dedication extended far beyond the workplace.
With lifelong ties to Waukegan, the community where he grew up, he believed strongly in giving back. He supported local initiatives through the North Shore Trust and Savings Charitable Foundation and remained personally involved in causes that mattered to him, including volunteering with the Youth Conservation Corps and serving on the Board of Siena Catholic Schools of Racine.
His actions reflected a belief that strong communities are built through service, connection, and care.
A Life Rooted in Family
Outside of work, Nathan found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. He cherished moments with his wife, their two children, and their family dog.
Whether hiking or exploring the outdoors, his love for family and nature was evident in all he did.
A Lasting Legacy
We are deeply saddened by Nathan’s passing on April 4, 2026.
At Oak Leaf Community Mortgage, we feel this loss alongside our colleagues at North Shore Trust. We are also incredibly grateful for the impact Nathan had, not only on the bank, but on the direction and growth of Oak Leaf.
His belief in expanding access to homeownership, his support of the Oak Leaf integration, and his unwavering commitment to people continue to shape how we serve our clients every day.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Nathan’s family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
